A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late Saturday night through Monday afternoon for much of New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania, including the Lehigh Valley, Bucks County, Montgomery County, Berks County, and surrounding regions.

According to the National Weather Service, a powerful winter system is expected to bring heavy snowfall with periods of mixed precipitation, creating the potential for dangerous travel conditions and widespread disruptions.

Latest Forecast Totals

Snowfall: Widespread totals of 12 to 17 inches are possible, with locally higher amounts where heavier snow bands develop. Ice: Periods of sleet and freezing rain may lead to ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch, especially during transitions in precipitation. Timing: Snow is expected to begin late Saturday night, continue through Sunday, and taper off Monday afternoon. Impacts: Travel could become very difficult to impossible, particularly during the Sunday timeframe and the Monday morning commute.

Forecasters note that small shifts in storm track could still impact totals, but confidence is increasing that this will be a high-impact winter storm for the region.

How to Prepare Before the Storm Arrives

Residents are urged to complete storm preparations before conditions deteriorate.

Home & Power Preparation

Fuel your generator early: Make sure generators are tested and fueled, and store extra gasoline in approved containers. Never operate generators indoors or near windows. Prepare for outages: Charge phones, battery packs, and backup lights. Have flashlights and extra batteries ready. Protect plumbing: Allow faucets to drip and open cabinet doors under sinks to reduce the risk of frozen pipes. Heating readiness: Ensure heating systems are functioning properly and fuel supplies are adequate.

Fire Hydrants & Community Safety

Clear fire hydrants: If safe to do so, shovel snow away from hydrants near your home. Fire crews need quick access during emergencies. Clear walkways: Keep sidewalks and entry points accessible for emergency responders. Have salt or ice melt ready for steps and driveways.

Vehicles & Travel

Avoid unnecessary travel: Road conditions may worsen rapidly during heavy snow and ice. Fill gas tanks: Keep vehicles fueled in case of emergencies or extended delays. Emergency kit: Keep blankets, water, snacks, a flashlight, and a phone charger in your vehicle.

Supplies to Have on Hand

Food and water for at least 3–5 days Prescription medications Pet food and supplies Warm clothing and extra blankets

Check on Others

Reach out to elderly neighbors or those with medical needs. Make plans for pets to stay warm and sheltered.

What to Expect

Snow-covered roads, reduced visibility, and the potential for power outages are all possible with this storm. Officials urge residents to finish preparations early, remain weather-aware, and limit travel once snowfall begins.

Additional updates will be provided as the storm track and snowfall projections become clearer.
