QUAKERTOWN, Pa. — Quakertown Community High School is implementing stricter security measures for its remaining home football games after students were found in possession of alcohol during three recent games.

School officials announced the changes ahead of Friday night’s football game, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a safe environment for students, families and other spectators.

Building Principal Dr. Mattias van’t Hoenderdaal said the incidents have raised concerns about safety at school sporting events, which regularly attract crowds averaging more than 3,000 people.

The school also pointed to recent safety incidents at other events in the region as another reason for strengthening security procedures.

New Security Procedures for Football Games

Beginning with the remaining home games, fans attending Quakertown football games will be required to follow several updated rules.

There will now be separate entrance lines for spectators carrying bags and those without bags. Anyone bringing a bag should expect additional screening and possible delays.

Backpacks will no longer be permitted inside the stadium, and all other bags, including purses, will be searched regardless of size.

Outside food and drinks will also be prohibited, except for unopened, factory-sealed plastic water bottles.

Reusable beverage containers, including Stanley cups, YETIs, tumblers and thermoses, will not be allowed, even if they are empty.

School officials are encouraging fans to leave unnecessary bags at home and arrive early to allow additional time for security checks.

Increased Security and Stricter Discipline

Along with the new entrance procedures, the school will increase staff supervision at stadium entrances and throughout the student section.

School personnel will also work closely with security officers and the Quakertown Police Department during games.

Administrators said there will be zero tolerance for serious violations involving alcohol, illegal drugs, vaping products, drug paraphernalia, weapons or other prohibited items.

Students involved in serious incidents will be removed from the game, and their parents or guardians will be contacted.

Disciplinary consequences could include school suspension and restrictions on attending future school activities, including dances, prom and other events.

Parents Asked to Help Keep Games Safe

School administrators are also asking parents to speak with their children about appropriate behavior before attending football games.

Families are encouraged to know who their children are attending games with, how they will get home and where they will be throughout the evening.

Anyone witnessing suspicious activity or inappropriate behavior is asked to immediately notify school staff, security personnel or police officers.

Concerns can also be reported to the school ahead of a game or anonymously through Pennsylvania’s Safe2Say Something program.

Changes Could Continue Next Season

Following the football season, the school plans to meet with students, parents, coaches, booster organizations and community members to discuss additional improvements for future games.

The goal, according to administrators, is to preserve the tradition of Friday night football while ensuring everyone can enjoy the games safely.

Quakertown is scheduled to host Souderton on Friday, October 9, at 7 p.m.

School officials are reminding spectators that the updated security rules will be enforced and are asking everyone attending to cooperate with the changes.
