BETHLEHEM, Pa. — A 21-year-old Bethlehem man has died after he was shot inside a home in the city Friday evening, and his death has been ruled a homicide.
Jose Yapur was pronounced dead early Sunday morning at a local hospital, Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio said in a news release. Buglio ruled the manner of death a homicide, and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
Bethlehem Police were called to the 1100 block of Maple Street around 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, for a report of an injured person. Officers found Yapur with a gunshot wound inside a home on the block. He was taken to the hospital with injuries police described at the time as life-threatening.
While investigating, officers found a .22-caliber firearm at the scene. A short time later, police located a 15-year-old boy they believe was involved in the shooting and took him into custody. Police have not released the teen’s name because of his age.
It was not immediately clear Monday whether charges against the teen will be upgraded following Yapur’s death, or what led to the shooting.
Buglio offered condolences to Yapur’s family, friends and loved ones.
The Bethlehem Police Department and the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact Bethlehem Police at 610-865-7000.
