PHILADELPHIA β A tough night at the Wells Fargo Center ended in frustration for the Philadelphia Flyers, who dropped a 2β1 overtime decision to the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday after a costly mistake at center ice turned into the game-winner.
Just over a minute into overtime, Flyers defenseman Cam York mishandled the puck near the red line, springing Edmontonβs Matt Savoie and Jack Roslovic on a clean 2-on-0 breakaway. Savoie fed Roslovic across the slot, and the Oilers forward blasted a one-timer under the bar past Flyers goaltender Dan Vladar at 1:19.
It was a deflating finish for Philadelphia, which battled hard through regulation and got a strong performance from Vladar, who kept the game locked at 1β1 despite extended pressure from Edmonton in the third period.
The dagger was even more frustrating for Flyers fans as Roslovic has been red-hot β scoring the overtime winner for the second straight game after sealing a 5β4 victory over Columbus on Monday.
The Flyers generated scoring chances late but couldnβt capitalize, ultimately paying the price for one mistake in a tight, low-scoring matchup.
Philadelphia now looks to regroup as they continue their homestand, searching for sharper execution in close games and more consistency in overtime situations.
