RICHLANDTOWN, Pa. — The Richlandtown Fire Company has announced the Line of Duty Death (LODD) of Fire Police Officer Todd Koch, who suffered a medical emergency while responding to a call for service Monday.
According to the department, Koch experienced a severe respiratory attack while responding to an emergency call on Monday, March 9, 2026. The medical event ultimately led to cardiac arrest.
Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by responders, Koch later passed away as a result of the medical emergency, the department said.
Fire officials described Koch as a dedicated and valued member of the Richlandtown Fire Company, known for his commitment to the department and the community he served.
“His willingness to answer the call to help others reflects the selflessness that defines the fire service,” the department said in a statement.
Fire police officers play a critical role during emergencies, often managing traffic, securing incident scenes, and helping protect firefighters and the public while crews operate at fires, crashes, and other emergencies.
Members of the Richlandtown Fire Company said Koch’s passing is deeply felt throughout the department and the surrounding community.
The department extended its deepest condolences to Koch’s family, friends, and loved ones, asking the public to keep them in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Funeral arrangements and service information have not yet been announced, but the department said additional details will be shared once they become available.
Koch’s death marks a solemn reminder of the risks faced by those who serve in the fire service — including those working to keep emergency scenes safe.
