LEHIGH GAP, Pa. — Emergency crews are battling a developing brush fire in a mountainous area north of the Appalachian Trail late Sunday morning.
According to 911 dispatchers, the initial call came in at approximately 10:15 a.m. for a fire burning between the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the Lehigh Gap, south of Palmerton.
Officials say the location of the fire has made access difficult, with the blaze reported near the top of the mountain. As of around 11:20 a.m., crews were only just reaching the scene.
Firefighters are expected to begin assessing the size and spread of the fire once they arrive in the area and determine the next steps for containment.
