Budget-friendly carrier Spirit Airlines is going out of business after 34 years of operation, the airline announced Saturday as it begins shutting down operations immediately.
The ultra-low-cost airline, known for its bright yellow planes and deeply discounted fares, has canceled all flights and is ceasing operations after prolonged financial struggles and failed efforts to secure additional funding.

The airline said eligible customers with future bookings paid by credit or debit card will receive automatic refunds, while other reimbursement claims may be handled through bankruptcy proceedings.
