SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Authorities in San Diego are investigating after police responded to reports of an active shooter Monday at the Islamic Center of San Diego.
According to initial reports, officers were dispatched around noon to the area of Eckstrom Avenue in the Clairemont neighborhood following calls of gunfire. Early information from authorities indicates at least one person was killed in the incident.
Heavy police presence was reported in the area as officers worked to secure the scene and evacuate nearby civilians. Video from the scene reportedly showed groups of people being escorted away by law enforcement, including children leaving the area alongside school staff and emergency personnel.
