WHITEHALL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Authorities have identified the man involved in a Tuesday night shooting in Whitehall Township that left a 27-year-old woman critically injured and the suspected shooter dead.
The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office identified the man as 34-year-old Eddie G. Estrada.
According to the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, Whitehall Township Police received a 911 call at approximately 10:20 p.m. Tuesday reporting a shooting at an apartment in the 1220 block of Pericles Place.
Investigators currently believe Estrada shot his girlfriend twice before calling 911 to report the incident.
Emergency personnel responded to the apartment and immediately began providing life-saving treatment to the woman. She was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where authorities said she remained hospitalized with critical injuries.
Estrada was found suffering from what authorities described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead shortly before 11 p.m.
Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio later determined Estrada’s manner of death to be suicide.
The District Attorney’s Office said investigators believe no other individuals were inside the apartment when the shootings occurred.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation by the Whitehall Township Police Department and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office Homicide Task Force.
Additional information may be released as the investigation continues.
