NAZARETH, Pa. — A volunteer firefighter accused of sending explicit photographs to someone he believed was a 15-year-old boy and attempting to arrange a meeting has pleaded guilty, according to court records.
Authorities said the individual, later identified as Mark Morella Jr., was communicating online with what he believed was a teenage boy. Investigators later revealed that the account was actually operated by an undercover Homeland Security officer as part of an online child exploitation investigation.
Court documents indicate that Morella pleaded guilty to attempted possession of child pornography. The charge stems from an investigation into online communications and attempts to obtain illegal material involving minors.
Federal and local authorities have increasingly utilized undercover operations targeting individuals seeking sexual contact with minors or attempting to obtain child sexual abuse material online.
Details regarding sentencing were not immediately available. Morella is expected to face sentencing at a later date in accordance with court proceedings.
The case remains part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute individuals involved in crimes targeting children.
