TOWAMENCIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Firefighters rescued two family dogs after a fast-moving fire heavily damaged a home Wednesday morning in the 1900 block of Stratton Drive in Towamencin Township, Montgomery County.
Emergency crews were dispatched shortly before 10 a.m. for a reported house fire. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions at the rear of the two-story residence, with flames rapidly extending into the attic. Crews quickly stretched attack lines and launched an aggressive attack, bringing the blaze under control in approximately 30 minutes.
The family of four who lives at the home was not inside when the fire started. However, two family dogs remained inside the residence. Neighbors alerted firefighters to the animals, and crews were able to safely rescue both dogs. They were later reunited with their owners.
Initial scanner traffic indicated callers reported hearing a loud explosion before the fire was discovered. Several neighbors also reported hearing what sounded like an explosion just before flames became visible.
Following an investigation at the scene, fire officials said they have ruled out a propane tank explosion. Although a gas grill was located behind the home, both the propane tank and the home’s natural gas line were found to be intact.
Investigators now believe the fire originated somewhere behind the residence, though the exact cause remains under investigation.
The rear of the home sustained extensive fire damage, with flames heavily impacting the exterior and attic area. Windows along one side of the residence were also blown out during the incident.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Towamencin Township Fire Marshal’s Office.
