PAWTUCKET, R.I. — Three people were killed and two others remain critically injured after a shooting inside an ice skating rink Monday afternoon in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Authorities confirmed the suspected gunman is also dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena, located about five miles outside Providence, during a high school hockey game. Officials say the incident appears to have stemmed from a family dispute that escalated into gunfire.
Police and emergency crews responded quickly to reports of shots fired inside the arena. Five victims were struck by gunfire. Three victims were pronounced dead as a result of their injuries. Two additional victims were transported to a local hospital, where they remain in critical condition.
Law enforcement officials confirmed the suspect was located inside the arena and pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say the suspect suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officials have not yet released the identities or ages of the victims or the suspect, pending notification of family members.
Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee said he is monitoring the situation closely and remains in contact with law enforcement and local officials as the investigation continues.
