Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro has won a second term, defeating Republican state Treasurer Stacy Garrity. The Associated Press called the race at 8:01 p.m. Tuesday, one minute after polls closed. AP, NBC, CNN, Fox News and other outlets all called the race for Shapiro.
With about 98% of the expected vote counted, unofficial NBC News results show Shapiro with 60.3% to Garrity’s 38.4%. Libertarian Ken Krawchuk was also on the ballot.
Garrity conceded Tuesday night, telling supporters she had called the governor to congratulate him on his “hard-fought victory.” Her running mate was Jason Richey, and she had President Trump’s endorsement. Shapiro’s running mate is Lt. Gov. Austin Davis.
By the end of Shapiro’s second term, Democrats will have held the governor’s office for 16 years. Shapiro was first elected in 2022 with 56.5% of the vote, succeeding Tom Wolf.
Brooks flips 7th District
In the Lehigh Valley, Democrat Bob Brooks defeated Republican incumbent Ryan Mackenzie in Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District. The AP called the race for Brooks at 10:27 p.m., with Brooks at 57% to Mackenzie’s 43% and about 80% of ballots counted. Mackenzie conceded a little after 10 p.m.
Brooks is a retired Bethlehem firefighter and president of the Pennsylvania Professional Fire Fighters Association. Mackenzie had held the seat for two years after defeating Democrat Susan Wild in 2024. The district covers all of Lehigh, Northampton and Carbon counties and part of Monroe County.
The race drew about $13.4 million in combined candidate fundraising, plus roughly $23.5 million in outside spending, according to OpenSecrets.
