Pennsylvania is preparing to honor the life and sacrifice of Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Mike Pahira, who was killed in the line of duty Wednesday morning while serving the Commonwealth.
Governor Josh Shapiro identified the fallen trooper as Trooper Mike Pahira, a 20-year veteran of the Pennsylvania State Police assigned to Troop L, Frackville. Trooper Pahira was conducting a commercial vehicle safety inspection along Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County when he was struck by a passing commercial vehicle in a tragic crash that claimed his life.
As Pennsylvania mourns the loss of another law enforcement officer, funeral arrangements and a full law enforcement procession are expected to bring together thousands of police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and first responders from across the Commonwealth and surrounding states.
The funeral procession for Trooper Pahira is expected to draw one of the largest displays of respect for a fallen Pennsylvania State Trooper in recent years. Members of the public are expected to line roadways, overpasses, and sidewalks along the procession route, holding American flags and paying tribute to a man who dedicated two decades of his life to protecting others.
Official funeral details, including dates, times, and the procession route, have not yet been released. Once finalized, significant traffic impacts and road closures are expected as law enforcement agencies work together to ensure a dignified escort for the fallen trooper.
