LEVITTOWN, Pa. — Two teenagers were taken into police custody after school staff found guns and marijuana in backpacks hidden on the grounds of Harry S. Truman High School during a home football game Friday night, Oct. 2.
Bristol Township police said the teens first tried to enter the game with backpacks but were turned away under the Bristol Township School District’s no-backpack policy. Investigators said they then concealed the bags on school property and entered the event.
School personnel later found the backpacks and discovered two firearms and marijuana inside. Police officers who were already at the game responded and took the teenagers into custody. One teen attends Truman, while the other attends a different high school, according to the district. The juveniles have not been identified.
No threats were reported, no shots were fired and no one was injured, officials said. School staff secured the firearms and notified police.
The incident remains under investigation. As of Tuesday morning, authorities had not announced charges or any school disciplinary action.
The school district notified families in a letter Saturday. In response to the incident, the district said metal detectors would be added at future home football games as an additional security measure.
