PHILADELPHIA — One of the most popular players in recent Philadelphia Eagles history is reportedly coming home.
The Eagles are signing veteran tight end Zach Ertz to their practice squad, according to multiple reports, including ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network. Ertz is expected to eventually be elevated to the active roster.
The reunion comes after starting tight end Dallas Goedert suffered a reported MCL sprain during Philadelphia’s Week 2 victory over the Tennessee Titans. Goedert is expected to miss several weeks.
Ertz, 35, spent his first eight-plus NFL seasons in Philadelphia after the Eagles selected him in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He earned three Pro Bowl selections with the team and played a major role in Philadelphia’s first Super Bowl championship.
During Super Bowl LII, Ertz caught seven passes for 67 yards, including the go-ahead touchdown in the Eagles’ 41–33 victory over the New England Patriots.
Philadelphia traded Ertz to the Arizona Cardinals during the 2021 season. He later played for the Washington Commanders during the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Ertz has recorded 825 receptions for 8,592 yards and 57 touchdowns during his NFL career. He made 579 of those receptions as an Eagle, leaving him 11 catches away from surpassing Hall of Famer Harold Carmichael’s franchise record of 589.
The move has not yet appeared in an official Eagles transaction announcement as of Tuesday morning. However, multiple national and Philadelphia-area reporters have confirmed that Ertz is returning on a practice-squad deal.
He could be elevated in time for Philadelphia’s Week 3 matchup against the Chicago Bears.
