PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will miss Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers after a follow-up ultrasound showed movement in a small blood clot in his calf, the team announced Thursday.
The Eagles said Hurts first sought treatment for his calf on Oct. 8, after being cleated during the team’s Oct. 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams. He practiced in full Wednesday and Thursday before that initial treatment, then practiced in full Friday and was added to the injury report.
After the team traveled to London, doctors performed an ultrasound Saturday as a precaution. The scan found a superficial blood clot. The team said medical staff and doctors in London reviewed the results and determined Hurts could safely play. They recommended a follow-up ultrasound within 72 hours of the game and the team’s return to Philadelphia.
Hurts played in Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars without limitation, according to the Eagles. He received treatment Monday and Tuesday and practiced in full Wednesday.
A follow-up ultrasound Wednesday night showed movement in the clot, prompting the Eagles to rule Hurts out against Carolina as they determine the appropriate course of treatment. The team said his health and safety are its highest priority.
