MELROSE, Mass. — A fire engine was unable to leave its station Monday afternoon after a vehicle was left parked directly in front of the apparatus bay doors, Melrose firefighters said.
According to the Melrose Firefighters, crews were dispatched at 12:24 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, to a motor vehicle accident with reported injuries on Vinton Street. Engine 2, however, could not respond because an unoccupied SUV was parked on the front ramp of Fire Headquarters, blocking the door. Firefighters said the vehicle’s owner could not be found.
Another fire unit was able to respond to the crash instead. Melrose police were called to the station, and the vehicle was towed by McGarvey Towing.
Photos shared by the department show a gray Toyota SUV parked squarely in front of the arched bay door, with Engine 2 sitting inside, lights on.
Firefighters are reminding the public never to park in front of fire station doors, for any reason and for any length of time, since an emergency call can come in at any moment. Every second counts when crews are responding to fires, crashes and medical emergencies.
The condition of those involved in the Vinton Street crash was not released.
