MIAMI, FL — Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown has been arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder following a shooting outside a celebrity boxing event in Miami.

The Incident

Authorities say the shooting happened around 3 a.m. on May 16, 2025, in the Little Haiti neighborhood of Miami. According to investigators, Brown was involved in a confrontation with a man identified as Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu following a heated argument near the event venue.

Witnesses told police that Brown allegedly took a handgun from a private security officer and fired two shots toward the man, grazing him once in the neck. The victim was later hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Miami-Dade Police detectives used a gunshot-detection alert system and nearby surveillance footage to identify Brown as the shooter. He initially left the scene before officers could question him further.

The Arrest

A warrant was issued in June, charging Brown with attempted murder with a firearm. After several months abroad, U.S. Marshals located and arrested Brown overseas earlier this month. He was returned to the United States and is now awaiting extradition to Florida to face charges.

Court documents list his bond at $10,000 and note that he could be placed under house arrest if released before trial.

Antonio Brown’s Background

Brown, 36, is a former All-Pro receiver best known for his years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he became one of the league’s most productive wideouts. He also played for the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, winning a Super Bowl ring in 2021.

Since leaving the NFL, Brown has faced multiple off-field controversies including legal disputes, domestic allegations, and public incidents that often made headlines.

Legal Outlook

If convicted, Brown faces up to 15 years in prison and fines up to $10,000 under Florida law. His defense team has indicated they will claim self-defense, alleging that Brown was attacked by several men attempting to steal from him.

Prosecutors say physical evidence, video recordings, and witness statements support the attempted-murder charge. A court date will be set once Brown is returned to Miami-Dade County custody.

Broader Impact

The arrest marks another dramatic turn for a player once considered among the NFL’s most talented stars. Brown’s case has reignited conversations about the pressures of fame, the post-career struggles of athletes, and accountability in the public eye.
