The Philadelphia Flyers were unable to complete the first-round sweep Saturday night, falling 4-2 to the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 4 of their playoff series.
Pittsburgh came out with urgency facing elimination, jumping to an early lead behind a power-play goal from Sidney Crosby before adding another in the second period to take control of the game.
The Flyers battled back as Denver Barkey scored his first career playoff goal to get Philadelphia on the board. Travis Konecny later added another to pull the Flyers within one in the third period, but the comeback effort fell short.
Kris Letang extended Pittsburgh’s lead midway through the final frame before Connor Dewar sealed the game with an empty-net goal.
Despite the loss, Philadelphia still holds a commanding 3-1 series lead as the matchup shifts back to Pittsburgh for Game 5, where the Flyers will have another opportunity to close out the series.
The Flyers entered Saturday looking for their first playoff series sweep in years, but the veteran Penguins core kept their season alive behind strong performances from Crosby and Letang.
