BRISTOL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Nearly two weeks after a deadly gas explosion rocked the Bristol Health and Rehab Center, the first lawsuit has been filed — alleging that the tragedy was the result of “overwhelming negligence” that could have been prevented.

Lawsuit Targets PECO and Facility OperatorsInvestigations Remain OngoingFamilies Searching for Answers

According to Bristol Township police, the January blast killed three people and injured roughly 20 others.
Those who lost their lives have been identified as:

  • Patricia Mero, 66 – resident
  • Ann Reddy – resident
  • Muthoni Nduthu, 52 – nurse and staff member

Families and survivors continue to grieve as investigators work to determine exactly what caused the explosion.

Lawsuit Targets PECO and Facility Operators

A Philadelphia-based law firm has now filed suit on behalf of victims and families, arguing that both PECO and the facility’s operators failed to recognize — and respond to — warning signs involving gas infrastructure and safety.

Attorney Robert Mongeluzzi, founding and senior partner of Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky, said the disaster was entirely avoidable.

“This was an explosion and an accident that should have never occurred,” Mongeluzzi said.

The lawsuit claims that residents and staff were placed in danger by poor inspection practices, inadequate maintenance, and alleged failures to properly monitor gas lines and systems.

Investigations Remain Ongoing

Authorities, including local fire officials and state investigators, continue to review what happened in the moments leading up to the explosion.

Officials have previously confirmed that numerous residents had to be rescued and treated, with some suffering burns, blast injuries, and smoke inhalation.

Structural damage to portions of the building was described as significant.

Families Searching for Answers

Loved ones of victims say they want accountability — but also assurances that something like this will never happen again.

Attorneys representing families say additional plaintiffs are expected as more residents come forward.

More updates are expected as the legal process moves forward and investigators release new findings.
