BETHLEHEM, Pa. — A Bethlehem man is facing attempted homicide and aggravated assault charges after police say he fired into a vehicle during a road rage incident Wednesday morning while a woman and young child were inside.

The incident happened shortly after 9:00 a.m. near Johnston Drive and the Linden Street area in Bethlehem.

Police identified the suspect as Jaime Paramo-Zamudio, 36. Investigators said he was driving in front of his mother’s vehicle when another car, described as a black sedan, pulled between the two vehicles while they were stopped in traffic.

Police said Paramo-Zamudio allegedly got out of his vehicle and fired at the sedan. Inside the sedan were a 42-year-old woman and a child in the back seat.

No one was struck by the gunfire, but the woman was injured by broken windshield glass and was taken to a local hospital. Police said the shot struck the front windshield of the vehicle.

Investigators recovered a shell casing and other evidence at the scene.

Police said the arrest was made a short time later with the help of video from a passing school bus and nearby business surveillance cameras. Authorities said that footage helped identify the suspect vehicle and led officers to Paramo-Zamudio shortly before 9:30 a.m.

The incident prompted temporary lockdowns at two nearby daycare centers, Lightbridge Academy and The Learning Experience, while police investigated.

Bethlehem Police said the case shows how quickly a road rage encounter can escalate into a potentially deadly situation.

Paramo-Zamudio is charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 27.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Bethlehem Police.

This is a developing story. First Source News will provide updates as more information becomes available.
