Interstate 75 near London, Kentucky, was closed by the police on Saturday evening following reports of an active shooter. Seven people were injured in an incident along I-75, according to London Mayor Randall Weddle. Not all of those injured had been shot; there was also a traffic accident at the scene, Weddle said. At least two of the injured were taken to UK HealthCare, and their conditions have not been disclosed. A suspect has not been captured, according to Kentucky State Police Trooper Scottie Pennington, who urged residents to stay inside and keep avoiding the area. The sheriff’s office released a name and photo of a person of interest, 32-year-old Joseph A. Couch, who is considered “armed and dangerous.” The terrain where he is believed to be is “very rugged,” according to the mayor.
